Beware of phishing: how to recognise fraudulent messages

18-02-21

Fraudulent messages from scammers are circulating more and more frequently. They try to get your personal information via email, text message, or social media. Fraudulent mails were recently sent out in the name of Mensura.

Do not fall into the phishing trap and pay attention to these 3 signals:

  1. It is a strange sender
Our communication is always through official channels. So pay attention to the domain name of the email address from which you receive a message. Only mail addresses ending in ‘@mensura.be’ are from a reliable sender.

  2. The mail leads to an unknown website
Scammers try to lure you to a fraudulent website that is a copy of the real one. There, they make you log in with your user name and password to get your data. Opening an attachment can also infect or block your device.

Our URLs always begin with mensura.be or mymensura.be. You can check the website of the link by hovering your mouse over it (do not click it). If you do not recognise the address immediately, do not click it.

Did you accidentally click a suspicious link?
Change your user name and password immediately. Then notify us as soon as possible by email. Finally, report the incident via Reporting hotline and report it to the police.

  3. Watch out for language errors and impersonal addresses
Fraudsters often send fraudulent emails to many people at once. Therefore, the address is rarely personal. Language errors, strange wording, and a different language are also signs that you are dealing with a swindler.
