How to use a fire extinguisher? What equipment to use in order to extinguish a starting fire? When to evacuate? This course will teach you how to act appropriately and thoughtfully in the event of a fire. The course is mandatory for members of the firefighting service.

What can you expect?

The course is all about practical experience.  This course has a maximum of 15 participants. This leaves plenty of opportunity for interaction and practice and you will get to implement your newly gained knowledge right away. Afterwards, you receive a certificate of participation. Catering is included.

How is the programme structured?

Three hours of theory

  • Role and assignment of the first intervention team.
  • Facts and figures about fires in Belgium.
  • Behavioural rules in the event of a fire.
  • Risks associated with smoke.
  • The fire triangle and fire categories.
  • Heat sources that may cause a fire.
  • Preventive measures to prevent the ignition, development and propagation of a fire.
  • Different types of extinguishing equipment.
  • When to evacuate and why? More information about various circumstances that lead to evacuation.
  • What zone, compartment, floor, building or site should be evacuated?
  • How to evacuate? What rules apply in the event of a fire and evacuation?
 

Three hours of practical training

You will get a demonstration of how to extinguish a burning deep fryer and then practice it yourself. You will also learn how to use first intervention equipment such as CO2-powder, water with an additive or a fire hose reel.
