Why choose a maternity protection checkup?
- A maternity protection checkup protects the health of mother and child, but also the employee’s rights during pregnancy in the workplace.
- It contains clear advice from the occupational physician on safe working conditions or a temporary break from work.
- It is legally required if there are risks in the workplace of harm to the pregnant woman or her unborn child.
What is a maternity protection checkup?
A maternity protection checkup takes place during pregnancy and is legally required. It is carried out if the employee is exposed to work-related risks to her health or that of her unborn child (e.g. chemicals, heavy physical demands or irregular working hours).
Based on the risk assessment, the occupational physician chooses the most suitable option: a temporary modification of working conditions or working hours, or a temporary change to the employee’s tasks.
What if you’re unable to follow this advice? If so, you must inform the health insurance fund, and the employee must stop work. You can fill in a certificate for this purpose, which the occupational physician will provide during the checkup.
How does Mensura help in practice?
Risk assessment and evaluation: based on your maternity policy and working conditions, the occupational physician will look at whether adjustments are necessary in the workplace for the expectant mother.
Decision on modified work: if you are unable to exclude or reduce the risks, the occupational physician may advise that work should be stopped for all or part of the pregnancy.
Correct certificates and guidance: you will receive all the necessary documentation to be legally compliant and monitor the employee properly.
