    Creating a safe workplace starts with preventing risks. Sometimes, however, the risk is so close to the employee that personal protective equipment (PPE) is the only solution to ensure safety.

    In some situations, general preventive measures aren’t enough to mitigate every risk. When that’s the case, you need extra equipment to protect your employees individually. We can identify when this is so and exactly what PPE is required.

    Personal protective equipment (PPE) is equipment or clothing that protects employees against workplace risks. It’s never the uniform or workwear itself, but always an additional item. Examples:

    • Safety shoes in a kitchen or warehouse

    • Splash goggles for working with corrosive liquids

    • Oven gloves for exposure to heat

    • Respiratory protection for harmful fumes

    • Hearing protection for prolonged exposure to noise

    PPE is always adapted to the individual tasks that employees perform every day.

    So you’ve now got all your personal protective equipment – are you done? Far from it. A helmet or hearing protection only works if worn correctly and consistently, so you’re required to train your employees how to use their personal protective equipment properly.     Individual protection in your organisation

    Focusing on PPE means more than just providing a helmet or safety glasses. Does your general indicate that PPE is necessary? If so, we can help you to develop your policy.
