Frequently asked questions

Do I need to provide any documents beforehand?

Yes, in order to carry out this service properly, we’ll need a number of documents beforehand. This will mean that the prevention advisor can work efficiently and effectively.

Where possible, please provide us with:

  • Technical documentation for the equipment: manufacturer’s manual, CE conformity declaration, technical datasheets (power, weight, pressure etc.), electrical or hydraulic diagrams.

  • Maintenance and inspection data: recent inspection reports, maintenance schedule, manufacturer’s maintenance instructions.

  • Additional information: previous risk assessments or reports on incidents and accidents involving the machine.

What does the ‘commissioning’ of equipment mean?

Commissioning means bringing a machine, installation or mechanised tool into use within your company for the first time. Before you do this, you must ensure that the equipment:

  • meets legal requirements

  • is safe according to a risk assessment

  • is properly maintained and inspected

When must you conduct a risk assessment?

You conduct a risk assessment:

  • before using new equipment

  • when you change the way equipment is used

  • when you put equipment in a different setting

This helps you identify hazards and introduce the appropriate preventive measures at the right time.

You need to stay alert afterwards, too: review the assessment in the light of any accident or incident, or if working conditions change.

Who conducts the assessment?

As an employer, you are ultimately responsible for the risk assessment of new equipment.

In practice, you will work with your internal or external risk prevention advisor, through Mensura for example.

If the equipment is complex or high-risk, it’s best to bring in a specialist.
