Difference between user and manufacturer
This module explains the difference between the two and clarifies when the Machinery Directive or when Codex Book IV on the provisions relating to work equipment applies. It also explains what changes you may or may not make to a machine/installation and the (legal) consequences of doing so.
Obligations of the machine manufacturer
This module further explains the Machinery Directive: scope, procedure for obtaining CE certification, essential safety requirements, technical file, CE declaration of conformity and nameplate, as well as possible legal consequences.
Obligations of the machine user
What must the machine user (employer) do in the context of the Wellbeing Act and the use of work equipment. An explanation is given of Codex Book IV, Title 2 on work equipment, as well as of the purchasing policy.
Through a well-founded purchasing policy, the employer can prevent machine-related risks from being introduced into the company.
Principles of machine safety
This module explains the link between the A standards (basic standards) and the risk assessment. It includes an explanation of A standard NBN EN ISO 12100, clarifying the principles for safe machine design, as well as how a risk assessment should be carried out.
Principles of safeguarding
This module discusses the different options for safeguarding a risk zone, with their advantages and disadvantages, so you can make a considered choice from the range available.
Standards such as NBN EN 13854 (minimum gaps), NBN EN ISO 13857 (safety distances), NBN EN ISO 13855 (positioning of protective devices) and NBN EN ISO 10218 (industrial robot safety) are discussed.
Reliability of safeguards
Are the safety contacts or light curtains sufficiently reliable for the risk they protect against? To answer this question, the following standards are explained: EN ISO 13849-1 – NBN EN IEC 62061 – NEN EN ISO 14119:2013.
A few cases explained
A number of practical examples are reviewed in which the above principles are applied. If desired, the examples can be specifically adapted to the company. However, this will involve an additional charge (time and materials).
Other aspects relating to machine safety
This module looks at other energy sources, including pneumatics and hydraulics, risks related to electricity (in relation to the machine), the emergency stop (including an explanation of NBN EN ISO 13850) and the control panel.
Ergonomic principles
Explanation of ergonomic points to consider in the design of a machine or installation.
Manual and instructions
Examples and explanations relating to the preparation of user manuals and instructions. A specific lockout/tagout instruction is also shown here.
