As an employer, am I required to adjust my absenteeism policy, or is this merely a recommendation?
We don’t yet know the start date of the new measures. However, since 1 October 2022 you have been legally required to develop a collective reintegration policy and evaluate it annually. As well as focusing on reintegration, such a policy must also include measures and procedures for tackling and preventing absenteeism. The coalition agreement (2025) also states that an active absenteeism policy will soon be a legal requirement.
Do I really need a customised absenteeism policy?
The government has issued a standard checklist (in Dutch) that you can use to get started. With the guidance of our experts, though, you can ultimately decide for yourself what arrangements you want to introduce regarding employee absenteeism. So either way, your policy will be individually designed.
