What is a customised absenteeism policy?
A customised absenteeism policy gives you peace of mind. You define clear arrangements about absenteeism and reintegration.
Together with our expert, the working group will discuss important topics: from procedures and collective reintegration policy to follow-up, interviews and modified work.
The result is a clear, fully documented absenteeism policy.
‘Mensura’s experts listened carefully to our needs and provided sound answers to all our questions. Together, we developed a positive absenteeism policy, which we ultimately renamed our attendance policy.’

How does Mensura help in practice?
Initial meeting
You meet our expert. Together, you consider the composition of the working group and how to go about the process in practice.Commitment session (optional)
A positive absenteeism policy starts with a clear vision and framework. In the course of a 3.5-hour commitment session, we’ll define the outlines together. We’ll discuss roles and responsibilities, set concrete goals and look at how we’ll monitor the impact. This will provide a good basis for the workshop: Designing an absenteeism and collective reintegration policy.Workshop: Designing an absenteeism and collective reintegration policy
During this workshop, your working group will develop tailored absenteeism procedures for the organisation. We’ll systematically address all relevant policy aspects.
Drawing up the policy
Based on the input from the workshop, our expert will develop an absenteeism and collective reintegration policy.

Frequently asked questions
Is developing an absenteeism policy expensive and labour-intensive?
Developing a policy does take time and effort:
You define a clear vision and concrete action points
You devise a communication plan
You possibly choose absenteeism software
You monitor absenteeism figures
But once your policy is in place, you’ll quickly see results. The efficiency gains quickly add up. After all, the cost of absenteeism far exceeds the investment in a sound policy. There’s replacing absent employees, the time and expense of training replacements, and monitoring and reintegrating employees who have been off work for a long time. The organisations we support consistently reach the same conclusion: a carefully designed absenteeism policy saves money in the long run.
But the gains are more than just financial: they also include a better atmosphere thanks to open, warm and professional communication, more motivated employees and a stronger employer brand.
In short, a sound absenteeism policy isn’t a cost: it’s an investment in your employees and your organisation.
Do I really need a customised absenteeism policy?
The government has issued a standard checklist (in Dutch) that you can use to get started. With the guidance of our experts, though, you can ultimately decide for yourself what arrangements you want to introduce regarding employee absenteeism. So either way, your policy will be individually designed.
What’s the difference between a customised absenteeism policy and a customised project plan?
The customised project plan gives you insight into your current situation: policy, figures and other relevant data. We also show you the potential ROI of an absenteeism approach. Think of it as a mini-audit that pinpoints your biggest challenges. We also provide concrete tips on how to get started.
Are employers required to adjust their absenteeism policy, or is this merely a recommendation?
Since October 2022, you have been required to have a collective reintegration policy. As well as focusing on reintegration, the policy should also include measures and procedures to combat and prevent absenteeism.
Since 1 January 2026, you are required to include in your work regulations a procedure for maintaining contact with employees who are incapacitated for work. This procedure must specify at least who maintains the contact and how frequently.
It forms part of an active absence management policy aimed at facilitating and preparing the return to work in cases of incapacity for work.
