What is periodic health monitoring?

It is a mandatory medical checkup for employees who are exposed to specific occupational risks, such as heavy physical demands, chemicals, noise or night work.

The aim is to keep an eye on and protect their health. We also assess whether they can continue to do their work in a safe and responsible manner.

The frequency and nature of the checkup depend on the risk analysis and the employee’s position. We determine this together during the company visit.

‘The people performing the checkup took their time and paid attention to the whole person. Very good balance between the medical and human aspects.’

How do I schedule a periodic medical checkup in MyMensura?

It’s easy to schedule a medical checkup in MyMensura. Choose the periodic or interim health monitoring option and receive an immediate overview of employees for whom a checkup needs to be scheduled. You select the time slot yourself.

What’s the difference between periodic health monitoring and interim medical checks?

Periodic health monitoring includes:

  • Periodic medical checkup:
a nurse and an occupational physician perform this standard checkup. Afterwards, the employee receives a health assessment form stating whether they are suitable for the position.

  • Interim medical checks:
these are follow-ups between two periodic checkups, performed by a nurse. An interim medical check is less extensive and no health assessment is provided.

What does my employee need to bring to the medical checkup?

To ensure that the medical checkup runs smoothly, we ask that the employee brings the following:

  • Proof of identity

  • Vaccination card or vaccination certificate (if applicable, for example in sectors where vaccinations are mandatory or recommended)

  • Driving licence (if applicable)

  • Glasses or contact lenses (if applicable)

We sometimes ask for other documents or certificates in the invitation.

Where does my employee need to go for the medical checkup?

If you’ve chosen to have the invitation sent directly to the employee, they will automatically receive an email with all the practical details, such as the time and location and any required documents.

If you prefer not to have it sent automatically, you are responsible as an employer for sending the invitation yourself. The letter clearly states that you are required to inform the employee of the checkup.

Can I cancel a medical checkup?

Yes, you can.

  • You can cancel or reschedule an individual medical checkup free of charge up to 48 hours in advance.

  • A cancellation period of 14 days applies to group appointments.

What if my employee doesn’t show up for the medical checkup without prior notice?

We will charge the full rate for the checkup and we won’t proactively send the employee another invitation.

Do I have to schedule the medical checkup for my employee during working hours?

Yes, the law states that the checkups must take place during working hours. The time is paid for as working time and the travel costs are payable by the employer.

Additional checkups are carried out for an employee. Do I have to pay for these too?

Preventive medical checkups relating to occupational risks may not entail any costs for the employee. As an employer, you must pay for all checkups (including additional checkups) to detect risk-related conditions.

My employee is ill. Do they have to be invited for the periodic medical checkup?

No. Employees who are unfit for work don’t have to attend periodic health monitoring during their absence.
